Ajith's Next four films

Triple treat

Patience pays. After extended negotiations, Ajith Kumar has finalised three films at one go. Ajith’s 50th film will be Venkat Prabhu’s Mangatha, produced by Dayanidhi Alagiri’s Cloud Nine. The second one is for director Vijay Alagappan (remember his debut with Ajith’s Kireedom?). There’s speculation that Vijay might even produce a film to be directed by Vishnu Vardhan — a remake of a recent Hindi film. The third film that Ajith has agreed to do is for director Vishnu Vardhan, who is almost ready with the script for Billa 2. Industry grapevine has it that Cloud Nine may take up this one too!

“No Underworld Theme For Ajith” Says Gautham

Along holiday in the English countryside and many accolades later, Gautham Vasudev Menon is a refreshed man. The director, who’s been scoring one hit after the other, is now swamped with offers to remake his latest hit, the Simbu-Trisha starrer Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa (VTV) in several languages. It’s now said that Prateik Babbar will be playing the lead in its Hindi version. “When it works out, I’ll be directing it. We’ll get a clear picture after the second week of June,” explains Gautham.
It’s the first time that a bilingual has got such a response in recent times. “I’m glad we were able to capture two markets, Telugu and Tamil, in one go. Most films only get dubbed in other languages,” he says.
The director is also being credited for giving Simbu a make-over. “Contrary to reports, Simbu was totally hassle-free and is a very competent actor. As for Trisha, she’s a good friend and a down-to-earth girl. She carried off the sari look really well,” says Gautham.
He’s also got enquiries from Bangalore for the remake rights of VTV. “Let’s see how it goes. Things need to be sorted out,” he says, adding, “I also hear that Kaakha Kaakha (KK) is being remade there. That’s good.” But the flick will not have Gautham wielding the megaphone. “I’m a bit sceptical about remaking a film that released eight years ago. Nishikant Kamath will be directing it,” says Gautham. Meanwhile, he’s wrapping up a thriller with Sameera Reddy and a newcomer, after which he’ll start working on Ajith’s 50th film. “When Ajith returns from the F2 circuit, we’ll get started. Reports of it having an underworld theme are false,” states Gautham.

Racing Mania: Ajith interview to TOI

Ajith has been experiencing a radically different life in the past few months. For, it’s been quite a while since the actor has been busy facing the camera! Instead, he’s been on the racing track, enjoying every minute with the machines that he loves so much. This year, Ajith will not be in town to celebrate his birthday much to the disappointment of his fans. CT got talking to the actor to gauge his passion for the sport and life beyond the camera a few hours before he left for the F-2 races in Morocco.

• Back on the track after a long time… how are you getting used to the machines?

Everything is going as planned. It’s a learning phase for me now, as I’m getting used to my car and its speed and setup. When it comes to racing, the more time you put in, the more you benefit. That’s exactly what I’m doing at the moment.

• Has your passion for racing increased?

Well, it’s always been there. I believe that there’s a time for everything. And, everything happens for a reason. I hate it when people say that racing is my hobby. It isn’t. It’s much more than that.

• But some people say that you’re not good enough as a racer…

I’ve come back to racing after six years; you obviously cannot expect a podium finish so soon! The least I can do is participate and give my best while racing. I could have easily given 200 days of my life to a producer and made money, but I’ve learnt that life isn’t about winning or losing; it’s about following your heart and living your dreams. I’m hoping that my participation will promote the sport and for that, I’m looking for like-minded people to collaborate with. Now that the cricket craze has died down post the IPL, I hope people will come forward to promote motorsport too. A sponsor, I feel, needs to have an emotional connect with the team and the racer.

• What plans do you have for your birthday and what’s your message to fans?

I’ll be racing in Morocco on my birthday. I just want to tell my fans to live their lives to the fullest. Pursue what your heart tells you and don’t be worried about failure.

YES, THEY ARE. MY DAUGHTER IS VERY YOUNG AND SHE’S NOT USED TO SEEING ME DISAPPEAR FROM HOME FOR SO LONG. I’M TRYING TO MAKE SURE THAT I COME HOME BETWEEN RACES, EVEN IF IT IS JUST FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS. AND, ON THOSE DAYS, I ALWAYS SPEND TIME PLAYING WITH ANUSHKA.

WHEN IS THE GAUTHAM MENON FILM HAPPENING?

I’M IN TOUCH WITH GAUTHAM AND THE PRODUCER. IT’S GOING TO BE MUCH MORE THAN JUST MY 50TH FILM; WE’RE LOOKING AT MAKING A MOVIE THAT’LL BE A WIN-WIN FOR EVERYONE. I’M PLANNING TO SHOOT ONLY ONE FILM PER YEAR AND GIVE THE AUDIENCE A QUALITY PRODUCT. GAUTHAM AND I WILL START SHOOTING FROM OCTOBER. SO, TILL THEN, IT’S GOING TO BE MOTORSPORT.

He might have dropped the ‘Ultimate Star’ tag, but that needn’t stop him from providing ultimate entertainment to his fans.

Known as the Ultimate Star for so long, Ajith recently sought to drop the title. “Sometimes, things are thrust upon you and you have no option but to accept them. But today, I’m at a point where I can decide how things should be,” reasons the star. 

His upcoming movie, Aasal, has proved to be quite an experience for the actor — not just because he was involved in it as an actor, but also as a co-director. He has written scenes and has been credited for his work in the film. “It’ll be quite a package. There are no narcissistic scenes in the film. The film’s not just about me; it’s about others, too,” says Ajith. 
Does the decision to co-direct arise from the fact that director Saran’s previous venture, Modhi Vilayadu, received a lukewarm response at the box office? “I’ve never worked with a director keeping his past records in mind. Most of my directors, like AR Murugadoss and SJ Suryah, were relatively new when I first worked with them,” replies Ajith. 

He hopes that Aasal will be a trendsetter of sorts. “It should dictate the quality of films that’ll hit screens in the next five years,” he says. 

Ajith’s look in Aasal is a hot topic of discussion even now. “We wanted to emphasise that the hero is fashion-conscious,” he says, adding, “Since we shot in Paris — the fashion capital of the world — the look had to match that. 
” 
But what about his latest look, without the mohawk and the ‘different’ moustache? Is it for his upcoming film with Gautham Menon? “No,” he clarifies, “I just went to a barber and asked him to remove both as I was tired of the look. I’m looking forward to working with Gautham, but would rather have the producers make an official announcement.”

After seeing ultimate star Ajith at the Aasal audio launch, speculations are spreading like wildfire about his next movie with ace director Gautham Menon.

Well, the star's stylish crew cut raised many eyebrows, with many guessing whether it could be a police story. With Gautam directing, this could be a good guess.

Remember, Gautam's police stories Kaakka Kaakka with Suriya and Vettayaadu Vilayaadu with Kamal Haasan were huge box office hits.

Will Ajith reunite Gowtham-Harris?

Cloud 9 Movies producer Durai Dayanithi has broken te suspense about Ajith's 50th film. In a interview, he said that he is going to produce Ajith's 50th movie and it will be directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon.

At first, it was gossiped that A.R.Rahman would be the music director of Ajith's 50th movie but sources close to A.R.Rahman say that he's more busy with his international projects and he didn't decide about this film yet. To our surprise, sources very close to Harris Jeyaraj say that Gautham menon has approached Harris Jeyaraj for Ajith's 50th movie.

Remember that, previously, Harris through his PRO announced that he is parting away with his friend Gautham. Harris and Gautham made their debut together through the 2001 romantic musical, 'Minnale'. They worked together in many films like 'Kakka Kakka', 'Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu' till 'Vaaranam Aayiram. Every album from this combo has been a massive hit. Due to some misunderstanding, they parted away after Vaaranam Aayiram. Gautham later used A.R.Rahman for his next movie Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya.

True friends cant be parted away permanently. They will surely join again with extra freshness and energy.

After few months, Gautham released a statement that he is ready to work with Harris. As a reply, Harris in his statement, said that God will decide, when they have to work together again.

We believe that the time which Harris told, has come now. Yes, Gautham menon has approached Harris Jeyaraj for Ajith's 50th movie. If the deal ends in a fruitful manner, then it will be the first ever film of Ajith - Harris combo and surely it will be a chartbuster. We can expect a different flavour from Ajith - Gautham - Harris combo.
